Ingredients

Pasta
  • 8 oz pasta (spaghetti, linguine, or penne) Choose your favorite type of pasta.
  • 1 tbsp butter or olive oil Use olive oil for a healthier option.
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced) Adjust garlic to taste.
  • 2 cups milk Whole milk preferred for creaminess.
  • 1 cup water Just enough to cover the pasta.
  • 0.75 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese Freshly grated for best flavor.
  • 0.5 tsp salt Season to taste.
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning Adds a nice herbal flavor.
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese or sour cream Optional for extra creaminess.
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley or basil Optional garnish for freshness.

Equipment

  • Large Pot or Deep Skillet

Method

  1. In a large pot or deep skillet, melt the butter (or heat the olive oil) over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant, stirring constantly to avoid burning.
  2. Pour in the dry pasta, milk, and enough water to just barely cover the pasta. Stir to combine and bring to a gentle boil.
  3. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 8–10 minutes or until pasta is al dente and most of the liquid has reduced to a creamy sauce.
  4. Add Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Stir until the cheese melts and the sauce thickens. For an extra creamy sauce, stir in cream cheese or sour cream.
  5. Garnish with chopped parsley or basil and serve immediately while hot.
