Ingredients

Snack mix base
  • 4 cups Honey Nut Chex cereal
  • 2 cups mini pretzel twists
  • 1 bag caramel Bugles 6 oz, about 6 cups
Pumpkin spice glaze
  • ½ cup unsalted butter 1 stick
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp salt omit if using salted butter
Add-ins
  • 1 bag M&M's 8 oz; Boo-terscotch or regular/fall colors
  • ½ cup candy corn
  • ½ cup candy pumpkins mellowcreme
  • ½ cup Reese's Pieces contains peanuts

Method

  1. Heat oven to 250°F (120°C). Line 2 rimmed sheet pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a very large bowl, combine Chex, pretzels and Bugles.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, melt butter and brown sugar, stirring until smooth and bubbling, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in pumpkin pie spice, vanilla and salt.
  4. Pour glaze over the cereal mixture in stages, folding gently until evenly coated.
  5. Spread evenly over both pans. Bake 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes and swapping pan positions each time.
  6. Cool completely on the pans, about 30 minutes; the mix crisps as it cools.
  7. Break up clumps, then toss in M&M's, candy corn, candy pumpkins and Reese's Pieces.

Notes

Storage: airtight at room temperature up to 1 week, away from heat so the candy doesn't melt; don't refrigerate. Make-ahead: bake the base up to 1 week ahead and add candy the day of serving. Microwave option: 5–6 min on High, stirring every minute. Allergens: Reese's Pieces contain peanuts; omit for nut-free and check labels.
